Risan is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement on the Baía de Kotor — an Illyrian city at the northernmost point of the inner bay with history stretching back over 2,300 years. The town was the capital of the Illyrian kingdom of Queen Teuta in the 3rd century BC before its conquest by Rome in 168 BC. Today Risan is home to the finest Roman mosaic floors in Montenegro — a 2nd-century AD villa with extraordinary in-situ mosaics depicting Hypnos (the god of sleep) and geometric patterns of remarkable preservation.
Risan sits 12 km north of Perast on the inner bay road, largely undiscovered by mass tourism, with an authentic village character, a small waterfront, and the Church of the Holy Trinity above the town. TTM picks up from any address in Risan.
