The ski season runs from December through March, with the ski centre operating on slopes between 1,450 and 1,850 metres — the highest ski terrain in Montenegro. Summer brings hikers onto the Durmitor Ring trail, cyclists onto the plateau roads, and rafters onto the Tara River. The town itself — small, functional, and entirely devoted to the parco nazionale around it — has a clear identity: it exists to serve the mountain, and everything about it reflects that.

The kafane (traditional taverns) of Žabljak are part of the cultural experience of the town — warm, wood-panelled, full of the particular mix of hikers, skiers, rafters, and local residents that makes Žabljak one of the most socially interesting small towns in Montenegro.
