Petrovac na Moru — The Paštrovići Riviera at Its Most Intimate

Petrovac na Moru is one of the most loved small coastal towns in Montenegro — and for good reason. It is quieter than Budva, more intimate than the resort hotels of the wider Riviera, and genuinely beautiful in a way that is architectural as well as natural: the old Venetian fortified tower that stands on the rocks above the main bay, the olive groves that surround the town on three sides, and the curved arc of sandy beach below — together they create a setting that has drawn visitors back year after year for generations. The taxi Podgorica to Petrovac covers approximately 50 km and takes around 50 to 60 minutes from Podgorica Airport — one of the shorter coastal transfers TTM operates, and one that has been part of our route portfolio since 2003.

What makes Petrovac exceptional is not its main beach — though the beach is very good, sheltered and sandy, with clear water and the full backdrop of the bay — but the coves beyond it. Lučice is a small, perfectly formed cove accessible on foot along the coastal path south of Petrovac, or by boat from the main beach. Its combination of fine pebble, pine shade, turquoise water, and almost complete absence of development makes it one of the most beautiful bathing spots on the entire Montenegrin coast — and the path to reach it ensures it remains quieter than anywhere accessible by road. Beyond Lučice, the wilder cove of Perazica Do is a further reward for those willing to walk — sea caves, old fishing boats, and a landscape that feels genuinely untouched.

South of Petrovac, the Paštrovići coastline continues through Reževići and Drobni Pijesak — two of the finest beaches on this stretch of the Riviera, both certified Blue Flag, both accessible by road or by boat. The medieval monastery of Reževići stands on a promontory above the sea, one of the oldest religious foundations on the Montenegrin coast, visible from the beach below and from the sea. The route to Petrovac from Podgorica Airport passes either via the Sozina tunnel through Bar, or — on a clear day, if time allows — through the Skadar Lake basin, the Crmnica wine villages, and the Paštrovska Gora highland, a route of exceptional scenic quality that TTM drivers have been covering for over two decades. Passengers frequently ask to stop at a viewpoint; we always know where to pull over.

🏰 Venetian Tower & Old Town

The fortified Venetian tower on the rocky headland above Petrovac beach — one of the most photographed landmarks on the Paštrovići Riviera. Built for coastal defence, it now overlooks a bay whose beauty it has watched for five centuries. The old town around it is compact and walkable, with a seafront promenade and a market square that have the unhurried character of a small Adriatic town that knows exactly what it is.

🌊 Lučice — The Hidden Cove

Lučice is arguably the finest small beach on the Montenegrin Riviera — a sheltered cove of fine pebble and turquoise water accessible only on foot along the coastal path or by boat. The 20-minute walk from Petrovac along the pine-covered cliff path is part of the experience. There are no beach clubs, no parasol rental operations, no jet ski hire. There is only the cove, the water, the pines, and the view back toward the Venetian tower.

🗺️ Perazica Do — Wild Coast

Beyond Lučice, the cove of Perazica Do is a further 20 minutes on foot — a wilder, more remote spot with sea caves, old fishing equipment, and a landscape that has changed very little. The kind of place that feels like a discovery even when you know it is there. Worth the walk on any morning when the sea is calm.

🏖️ Reževići & Drobni Pijesak

Two Blue Flag certified beaches south of Petrovac — Reževići with the medieval monastery on the headland above, and Drobni Pijesak with the finest sand on this stretch of coast. Both are accessible by private taxi from Petrovac in under 10 minutes. TTM covers transfers to both from Podgorica Airport at the same fixed price as Petrovac.

🫒 Olive Groves

Petrovac is surrounded by ancient olive groves that have been part of the landscape for centuries — the Paštrovići region was historically one of the most important olive-producing areas on the Montenegrin coast. Walking through the old olive trees in the morning, before the sun is fully up, with the smell of the pine and the sound of the sea below, is one of those simple pleasures that stays with visitors long after they have returned home.

⛪ Reževići Monastery

The medieval Monastery of Reževići — one of the oldest religious foundations on the Montenegrin coast, dating to the 13th century — stands on a promontory above the sea south of Petrovac. Visible from the beach below and from passing boats, it is one of the quiet highlights of the Paštrovići Riviera and a short private taxi ride from Petrovac town.

Hotels & Restaurants in Petrovac

Petrovac's accommodation reflects the character of the town — well-maintained, personally run, and oriented toward guests who return. There are no mega-resorts. The restaurants are predominantly seafood-focused, honest, and almost all within walking distance of the beach. TTM provides private taxi to Petrovac hotels directly from Podgorica Airport at a fixed price.

🏨 Hotels

✨ Hotel Palas

One of the most established hotels in Petrovac — a well-regarded property with a seafront position and a long history of welcoming returning guests. The combination of a reliable standard, a good restaurant, and proximity to both the main beach and the coastal path to Lučice makes it a consistently popular choice. TTM provides airport transfer to Hotel Palas Petrovac from TGD at a fixed price.

🌊 Hotel Rivijera & Ami

Two further well-regarded hotels in the Petrovac area — Hotel Rivijera with its established position on the waterfront and a loyal following of returning guests; Hotel Ami with a more contemporary feel and easy beach access. Both attract visitors who have been coming to Petrovac for years and know exactly what they want from this stretch of the Riviera.

🏡 Hotel Montecasa & Apartments

Hotel Montecasa offers a quieter, hillside alternative for those who prefer a view over the bay to a beach-level position. A number of well-reviewed private apartment complexes in and around Petrovac provide self-catering options — all within easy reach of the beaches and the town's restaurants by foot or by the short private taxi TTM can arrange.

🍽️ Restaurants

🐟 Ponta Beach & Tramontana

Two of the most consistently recommended restaurants in Petrovac — Ponta Beach for seafood on a terrace above the bay with the view of the Venetian tower and the open sea; Tramontana for grilled fish and Montenegrin coastal cooking in a setting that makes the most of the evening light over the water. Both draw a loyal following of guests who return specifically for the food as much as the beach.

🌿 Giardino & Casamia

Giardino brings a more considered approach to the Petrovac dining scene — fresh ingredients, careful preparation, and a menu that changes with the season. Casamia offers an intimate alternative for evenings when a smaller, quieter setting is preferable to the busier waterfront options. Both represent a quality of cooking that the size of the town makes genuinely surprising.

🌲 Šumice

A restaurant in the olive grove above Petrovac — one of those settings where the food tastes better because of where you are sitting. The combination of shaded outdoor tables among old olive trees, Montenegrin cooking at its most honest, and a view that extends toward the sea through the branches is exactly what a summer evening in the Paštrovići should feel like.
